Description and Registration: In their recent book "Taking Stock of Shock" Kristen Ghodsee (Philadelphia/USA) and Mitchell A. Orenstein (Philadelphia/USA) look at the social consequences of the 1989 revolutions. Drawing from political science and ethnography, they examine 27 countries over the 30 years of transition in the post-socialist world and analyze the competing narratives about that transition. Their interdisciplinary approach enables them to closely investigate who won and who lost in it and to ultimately develop a new narrative about transition from an inequalities perspective. The presentation of the book with Kristen Ghodsee and Mitchell A. Orenstein will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

The event will be held in English and will take place on Zoom. Receive access after registration via Link. Organized by the Cologne/Bonn branch of the German Association for East European Studies (DGO) in Cooperation with the Lew Kopelew Forum.
